UQBC Masters strike gold at National Championships

Masters mixed D4+ gold medal winnersJo Cook and Tim Douglas of UQBC Masters travelled to Nagambie for the Australian Masters Championships from May 29 to June 1.

With excellent weather and water conditions across the weekend it was a perfect weekend for rowing.

Tim and Jo secured a gold medal in the mixed D4+, a feat all the more remarkable as Tim shared the victory with his father Ian Douglas.

Competing in a composite crew, the coxed four were forced into a last minute change which saw Tim’s father subbed in.

Ian Douglas, 74 years-old, is an ex-Australian oarsman and Empire Games gold medallist from 1956.

A tightly fought race, the crew shared the win with a combined crew from Victoria as a photo finish revealed a dead heat.

Tim and Jo finished with a silver medal in the mixed C2- in a time of 4:08:20,  narrowly beaten out by a strong crew from Commercial Rowing Club.

They both also picked up bronze in the mixed C8+ in a combined Queensland crew consisting of rowers from UQBC, Toowong, Townsville and Noosa.

Congratulations to Jo and Tim for outstanding results on the national stage.
